Exceptionally nice, 19th century hope chest or bride's box as they are sometimes called. This one comes direct from decades of storage. Chests like this one held the dowery (money, misc. possessions) of young brides throughout childhood right up and through the wedding day. It is likely the father of this chest's original owner made it himself. The authentic folk art paint work really adds charm. Great patina and iron bands too. The inside of this chest has vintage cut-outs, cards, clippings, and wrappers displayed scrapbook style on the inside cover. One of kind!
