Here's a gorgeous, 19th century dowery chest with fabulous, painted folk art decorations! Believe it or not, this old bride's box has its original paintwork and is very well preserved! It's dated 1870 and has painted-on initials as well. In what has become a lost tradition, father's of girls built such boxes for their daughters when they were little girls. Momentos, fancywork and useful items in anticipation of her marriage would be saved in the chest. This one has wonderful, hand painted art including images of cats and birds. Made of pine and quite heavy, this chest has great, original forged iron hardware and tin edging. It's 100 percent authentic and very beautiful. It is quite dusty in the photos and will clean up nicely.
