Nice, speckled redware "belly pitcher" from the late 1800's in very good condition! There is evidence this one was first glazed in mustard yellow and then green glaze was applied over that. There are a few places where mottlement took place where the yellow glaze pokes through. It can also be seen near the base, where both glazes stop short of the bottom rim. There is a folksy "chain-like" decoration that encompasses the upper third of this pitcher. It measures a total of 9 1/2 inches tall, has bottom diameter of 4 1/4 inches and an opening diameter of 5 inches if you include the spout. Other than the typical, old, worn chips around the rims, this pitcher is in great shape. No cracks or structural problems at all. Old redware pottery is difficult to find these days and you can find some real nice pieces right here at CountrysideAntiques.com!
