Here's a nice-looking, 2-handled, redware pot "as found" from an outbuilding at a farm we are clearing out. This pot dates back to the 1880's and was stashed away for decades. It has a great, mustard yellow color with a white, whimsical decoration that goes around the upper portion of the pot. Remarkably, neither of the handles have been broken or have cracks. This pot does have some hairlines here and there...none of which are structurally significant...this pot will not fall apart on you. They help to authenticate the true age of this piece!
At some point, someone must have drilled a small hole in the bottom for drainage when it served as a planter. There is a small piece of tough old cloth clogging the hole right now. Two-handled pots like these are rare because most were broken over the years. Despite the imperfections, this redware pot is still a nice example of 19th century country pottery.
