Here's a small and very old redware pot circa 1870 or so. Very primitive looking with no glaze on the outside and orange glaze on the inside. The patina on the exterior is grungy and all original. There are three incised rings about 1/3 the way down on the outside. The wide opening turns outward and was probably for pouring liquids. It is blackened a bit on the underside which could mean it was used to heat up something over an open fire. This pot measures 7 1/8 inches tall, has a base diameter of 3 3/8 inches while the opening measures between 4 and 4 1/4 inches across depending where you measure it. There are some light hairlines that look like they have been there for decades. There are a couple of old, worn chips too. These flaws are commonly found on old redware of this type due to the heavy use they saw in their day. It is a nice primitive pot at a nice price.
