19th Century folk art pottery at its finest can only be found at Countryside Antiques & Primitives! Take this piece of period redware for example! This "belly pitcher" has three different colors of salt glaze. The base color was a dark orange color that gets partiallly obscured by random images or designs in a light yellow or possibly white glaze. Those images, much like clouds, look like different things to different people. Very interesting art work in itself. Finally, a coat of translucent green glaze was added over all the previously applied glaze for a wonderful, speckled look! This pitcher measures 10 1/4 inches tall, has a 4 1/8 inch base diameter, and an opening that measures 4 1/4 across including the spout. It is a "barn find" and had been there for decades. The opening and the base rim each have a small old chip that have worn with the passage of time. Such defects don't hurt the value of country pottery like this because most pieces were so heavily used, they did not survive. This is a beautiful example of 19th century redware!
