Very charming country pitcher with great colors and folksy decorations! Bulbous in shape, great applied handle and in remarkable, undamaged condition! Beautifully glazed with a blend of burnt orange and hints of green, there is some mottling in places that add darker orange splotches for extra character! Five yellow flowers were glazed by hand all across the top third of the piece as decorative touches. It dates back to the late 19th Century and was used to store and serve beverages. To keep the contents cool and fresh, pitchers like this one were stored in basements on the floor. The unglazed bottom of the piece would absorb the cool dampness from the gound and keep the contents of the jug fresh and free from contamination since the inside was completely glazed. This one has no chips or cracks but does show some age and is a great, decorative piece!
